The Oregon wrestling team dropped both of its dual meets in California Friday, losing 33-9 to UC-Davis and 26-12 to the Stanford Cardinal.
Senior Chris Dearmon was the most successful Duck, winning both of his matches in the heavyweight division. He won an 11-6 decision over the Pacific-10 Conference’s No. 6 heavyweight, Broc Maffia of UC-Davis, and followed that up with a 9-5 decision over Stanford’s Phil Doerner. Dearmon is currently the No. 5 heavyweight in the Pac-10.
“It is good to see Chris wrestling so well down the stretch in his final season as a Duck,” coach Chuck Kearney said in an Oregon release. “He has been a leader for us and we want him to finish out his career with a Pac-10 title. If he continues to wrestle how he has recently, he can do it.”
The Ducks (6-11, 1-7 Pac-10) won three matches in their dual with the UC-Davis Aggies (5-5, 4-0 Pac-10). Sophomore Kyle Bounds was the first to get on the board for Oregon with a 3-2 decision over Vincent Durant, but the Ducks wouldn’t score again until Dearmon’s victory at heavyweight. After Dearmon’s match, Ryan Dunn earned the Ducks’ final points of the night with a 4-3 decision over Marcos Orozco at 125 pounds. Orozco is No. 2 in the Pac-10 at 125 pounds; Dunn came into the weekend ranked No. 4.
Oregon won just two matches in their dual with the Cardinal, including Dearmon’s win at heavyweight. The Ducks’ other winner in the meet was senior Justin Pearch, who bounced back from a loss at UC-Davis to beat Stanford’s Matt Kim 9-3. The rest of the Ducks’ 12 points came by way of forfeit.
Oregon wrestling hosts Oregon State Friday, 7 p.m., at McArthur Court, in its final home meet of the season.
