The hot streak continues for the Oregon softball team (9-1) with five consecutive wins this weekend at the Louisville Slugger Desert Classic in Las Vegas. The Ducks have now won nine straight on the season.
Oregon picked up a pair of shutout victories on Friday, 8-0 against UC Davis and 14-0 against Seton Hall on a pair of one-hit shutouts by pitchers Melissa Rice and Alicia Cook.
The Ducks defeated Florida International 13-4 and Cal State Fullerton 2-0 on Saturday and wrapped up the weekend with another shutout, this time 6-0 against Utah.
Cook, the junior ace, improved to 5-1 on the season with a three-hit shutout of Utah, a six-hit shutout of Cal State Fullerton and the one-hit shutout of Seton Hall.
Rice, a sophomore, ran her record to a perfect 4-0 with a one-hit shutout of UC Davis and a six-hit, four-run outing against Florida International.
The Ducks were again strong offensively over the weekend, recording three double-digit hit games, including 13 hits against Seton Hall. Many different Oregon players stepped up at the plate with a new leading hitter in every game.
Designated player Ann Marie Topps recorded six RBIs and three home runs during the weekend to give her five for the season while Sari-Jane Jenkins paced the team overall by going 9 for 17 with six runs and two RBIs.
The Ducks return to action Thursday on the road at the University of San Diego and stay there for the Aztec Invitational running Feb. 23-25.
