Oregon Daily Emerald: What does it feel like to be on a winning streak in the Pacific-10 Conference?
Cicely Oaks: I feel like a lot of our hard work has paid off and we definitely learned from the close losses that we had in the beginning of the season. So it just feels good that it’s finally paying off.
ODE: Does it feel good to surprise some people who may have had low expectations for this team?
CO: I don’t think we surprised the people in the Pac-10 because none of them blew us out. I think they probably just weren’t prepared to lose, but I don’t think it was a big shock like ‘Wow, they’re actually in the game,’ or anything like that, no.
ODE: What music do you really enjoy playing the most? Before games?
CO: Just any hip-hop really. I just have a couple playlists on my iPod that I just play over and over and over with the same songs. I don’t really have like one song that I listen to – just anything. (Right now, T.I. sticks out as an artist she listens to often).
ODE: What is the best thing that you can do that can get your roommate (and friend) Jessie Shetters laugh?
CO: Pretty much anything. In practice, I just goof around so whenever I kind of like make (coach) Bev (Smith) mad or like do something where she’ll call attention to my behavior, then that kind of make’s Jessie laugh a little bit. I’m rebellious. I’m a rebel.
ODE: You had a soccer player on the team with Nicole Garbin, which other sport would you play at Oregon?
CO: Probably football. I’d want to be a defensive player. I think it would feel really good to just crack somebody and just hit them really hard. I think that would be really fun. I wouldn’t want to be the one getting hit, but I would like to give (a hit).
ODE: If could play one of the men’s basketball players one-on-one, who would it be?
CO: That’s tough. I’m going to have to say Ray (Schafer), just because it’s Ray. That would be funny. I’m sure some really interesting things would go on.
ODE: You had (former teammate) Brandi (Davis) go to the WNBA last year. Who of your senior teammates do you think has the best chance of going to the WNBA this year?
CO: I would say El (Eleanor Haring) and Ganer (Carolyn Ganes). Just cause Ganer can shoot. You can’t really teach anyone to shoot like that. El is just athletic. She can get her own shot for herself. She is just an unbelievable athlete.
ODE: Who is your pick for the NBA Championship?
CO: The Dallas Mavericks. I like how they play and they are playing really well.
