ASUO President Emily McLain said Monday that several ASUO positions remain open because of a lack of interested applicants.
There are at least six open positions in the ASUO for which all students can apply. All positions pay stipends and all nominees selected by the Executive must be approved by the Student Senate.
The open positions include one at-large seat on the Athletic Department Finance Committee, which negotiates student tickets to football and basketball games, and one on the EMU Board of Directors. There are two open seats on the Programs Finance Committee, which allocates funds to all of the programs, departments, and groups funded by the ASUO. One PFC seat is a Senate position currently filled by Sen. Neil Brown; the other is designated for an Executive appointee.
There are two open positions on McLain’s Executive staff. One is for a veteran’s and non-traditional student advocate, which McLain said was filled twice this year but the students were later unable to fit the position into their schedules. The other spot is for an elections publicity coordinator.
Open Senate seats have to be filled within 30 days of a senator’s resignation. Brown has said he will resign before the end of the term if a replacement is found.
Applications can be found on the ASUO’s Web site or in the ASUO office in EMU Suite 4.
The are no requirements for the positions, but McLain said candidates should have some relevant experience in the area for which they are applying.
