The third round of the Husky Invitational was canceled due to poor weather conditions yesterday, forcing tournament officials to make all scores based on the first 36 holes played. The cancellation of the last round left the Oregon men in fourth place with a score of 596, 21-over par, twelve strokes behind team champion Oregon State. The Beavers also claimed the individual title with James Allenby shooting a 6 under, beating the runner-up by four strokes.
The Ducks, after a surge in the second round the day before, dropped two spots to second place, but strong performances by freshmen helped. Jack Dukeminier and Sean Maekawa both shot 72 in the second round Monday, helping the Ducks climb into contention from an early eighth place position. Oregon’s highest placing individual was Dukeminier at 2 over par, which was good enough for a tie for eighth place with four other golfers. Closely behind him was senior Joey Benedetti at 4 over, and tied at 14th. Four strokes behind Benedetti is Maekawa in a six-way tie for 31st place.
Derek Sipe rounded out the Ducks placers, shooting a 10 over par for the two rounds, which was good enough for a tie for 39th.
Finishing out the top-five teams were host Washington in second with a 16 over par, Pepperdine at third place with a plus 19, and Cal and San Diego State tied for fifth with 23 over par performances.
Women
In Boulder, Colo., where the women played the second day of the Heather Farr Memorial Invitational, the Ducks finished with a 37-over par 901, placing sixth out of 22 teams.
Kendra Little, the top placer for the team, tied for 11th place, shot a 5 over par for the three-round tournament, putting her seven strokes back of Kayla Morinaga of Portland State, who shot 2 under par. Following Little was Cathryn Bristow at plus nine, finishing in a tie for 24th place. One stroke back was teammate Felicia Eastick at 10 over par and tied for 28th. Kate Hildahl shot a 72 in her third round, helping her to a 14 over – tied for 37th place. Victoria Winslow wrapped up the individual placers for Oregon, shooting a plus nine on the last 18 holes, and ending up in a tie for 69th at 23 over par.
