A Eugene man was arrested Saturday in connection with the hit-and-run at 13th Avenue and Hilyard Street that killed Lucy Irene Lahr, 45, of Eugene.
Robert Thomas Berryhill, 39, was arrested on initial charges of felony hit-and-run and driving with a suspended license, a misdemeanor. Additional charges may be filed after the case is reviewed.
Police found Berryhill on the border of Coos Bay and North Bend Saturday with the assistance of the North Bend and Coos Bay Police Departments, the Oregon State Police and the Coquille Indian Tribe. He was taken into custody and transported to Lane County Jail.
His car was found in a Safeway parking lot and Berryhill was located nearby, Eugene police spokeswoman Melinda Kletzok said. Kletzok said there was an anonymous tip that helped lead the agencies to Berryhill. Berryhill grew up in Coos Bay.
On Thursday evening at 7:43 p.m., Berryhill took a sharp left turn in a dark-colored truck at East 13th Avenue and Hilyard. He struck Lahr and her partner Susan D. Wehner, 44, both of Eugene, who were in a crosswalk. Berryhill did not stop. Wehner is being treated at Sacred Heart Medical Center and is reported to be in fair condition.
