I am embarrassed and appalled once again to call myself an Oregonian and a Duck fan after Kevin Hudson’s article that I read on the world wide Internet. Hudson dismissed the punishment the Oregon mascot received as limp-wristed which was obviously intended to insult it by calling it gay. Then Hudson dismissed the Duck’s simulated raping of the other teams mascot as just a “dry hump.”
In a state where people are often stopped and/or shot for “driving while black,” a state that in the ’50s had one of the largest KKK memberships, a state that has been slow to recognize the rights of women and individuals, I like to think progress is being made. Now all of my friends from my adopted state of Washington are taunting me because people in the state of Oregon think that simulated rape is funny.
Hudson needs to enter the new millennium.
