According to Web sites that have inside information within the college baseball community and insiders in the Oregon Athletic Department, Oregon has chosen Cal State Fullerton coach George Horton as the Ducks’ new baseball coach.
“It’s pretty much a done deal,” said one source with knowledge of the negotiations to baseballamerica.com. “Nothing’s been signed so nothing’s official yet, but it’s pretty much a done deal.”
Horton was named the 2003 Coach of the Year by Baseball America and won the 2004 College World Series with the Titans . His team returned to the World Series this year and were eliminated by UC Irvine.
Horton, 53, compiled a 490-212-1 record in his 11 seasons as the coach of Fullerton and had six World Series appearances.
When asked for comment, the athletic department would neither confirm nor deny the announcement.
