A University employee suffered a severe head injury after he apparently fell off of his bike while entering the parking lot at the intersection of Onyx Street and Franklin Boulevard Friday morning.
The man, whose name could not be released because of legal restrictions, was taken to Sacred Heart Medical Center to be treated for his injuries.
As of Friday afternoon, Department of Public Safety Lt. Herb Horner said it did not appear as though any vehicles were involved. The man’s bicycle suffered only minor damage resulting in part of the handle bar to fall off.
“We’re not really sure what happened (and) he wasn’t either. He was very disoriented,” he said. “This is a little unusual because it appears he went down on his own.”
Horner said it’s not the first time he has seen a bicycle accident at this intersection. Two years ago, a woman was killed after she was struck by a car as she rode across Franklin Boulevard.
“It is a very congested intersection,” he said.
