The Oregon track and field teams opened the indoor season at the University of Washington with several notable efforts.
Transfer Brian Richotte, a graduate student transfer from Radford University, barely missed the school record in the 35-pound weight throw in his Oregon debut.
But he did win the competition handily with a throw of 67-4 1/4, passing the NCAA provisional standard of 63-11.
His performance Saturday inched him past Ken Flax (64-0 1/2) on the Oregon all-time list and left him second only to All-American Adam Kriz (first, 67-7).
Freshman runner A.J. Acosta finished just inside of the NCAA provisional standard of 8:05.00 by running a time of 8:04.71.
Ashton Eaton of Bend ended his second day in second place in the heptathlon with an NCAA provisional score of 5,370 points, 20 points above the provisional qualifying standard.
Marshall Ackley came in ninth place with 4,515 points.
Football standout and track athlete Walter Thurmond III placed sixth overall in the 60 meter hurdles with 8.13 seconds. Teammate Jared Huske made a .06 second personal best in finishing seventh in 8.18 seconds.
