Starting Oregon center Jessie Shetters is likely to miss the rest of the season with a stress fracture in her lower back, according to a report in The Register-Guard. Calls to Shetters and the Athletics Department were not immediately returned.
Shetters initially injured her back in a loss at USC two weeks ago. She sat out the following game at UCLA, but returned to play when Oregon hosted Arizona and Arizona State last weekend.
Shetters learned the full extent of the injury Tuesday night after doctors performed an MRI. The report says Shetters will be inactive the next two weeks before she can participate in cardiovascular workouts. The diagnosis suggests Shetters will miss six weeks, with a possible return coming in the Pacific-10 Conference Tournament starting March 2.
The Portland native was having the best season of her four-year Oregon career. Shetters is averaging 5.7 points and 8.4 rebounds per game.
