The University of Oregon took its first step toward finding a replacement for Bill Moos, who took $2 million over 10-years as part of a deal to walk away from the University at the end of March, by forming a “search team” according to a University press release.
University President Dave Frohnmayer identified a team of eight members to take over one of the country’s strongest athletic departments.
“The University of Oregon intends to move quickly and aggressively to identify the best person able to lead the athletic department,” Frohnmayer said. “This is one of the top positions in the country. The fact that the University of Oregon athletics program is one of the few financially self-sufficient programs in the Division I makes the UO athletic director opening a very attractive opportunity.”
Moos’ 12-year run as University of Oregon athletic director is the longest tenure since Leo Harris’ 19 years between 1948 and 1967.
The committee is chaired by Allan Price, vice president for university advancement.
The team also includes University officials Michael Moffitt, Suzanne Clark, Dan Williams, Melinda Grier, Willie Blasher, Joe Gonyea II and Dave Petrone.
President Frohnmayer said he wants the University’s next athletic director to be someone who makes sure Duck athletics are in the top third in “all sports and regularly contend for conference and national championships.”
The search team’s first meeting will be held Friday.
