The unidentified man who was abandoned on campus on Wednesday evening was released from the hospital Friday, according to the Department of Public Safety.
DPS was unable to attain the identity of the man because Sacred Heart Hospital, where the man was being treated for alcohol poisoning and a likely case of hypothermia, is restricted by law from releasing patient medical information.
The 18-year-old man was not a University student, DPS Lt. Herb Horner said.
Horner said the man told Sacred Heart that he was intoxicated and did not remember the circumstances surrounding his abandonment behind the Education building at about 9 p.m. Wednesday. Horner said the man did not plan to file a criminal complaint against those who left him behind.
Without a criminal complaint, DPS cannot conduct an investigation, Horner said.
“Technically there has been no crime,” he said.
“(The people who left him) just said, ‘he’s drunk, we’re going to pick him up tomorrow’,” Horner speculated. “Couple of real friends.”
