A newly founded environmental student group at the University will try to spread its message of eco-awareness tonight with a screening of former vice president Al Gore’s climate change documentary “An Inconvenient Truth” at 6:00 p.m. in 180 PLC.
The Students for Biofuel Energy, though not technically a recognized student group yet, plans to begin an initiative at the University to purchase waste vegetable oils from food services on campus, convert them to biofuel and sell them back to the University at the production cost, said University student and member Hannah Bronfman.
Tonight’s event is part of a process to gain the support and means to carry out its project, she said.
“Half of the purpose is to get people more aware about our group, and the other half is to get people involved and remove the cynicism (about environmental concerns) from the student body,” Bronfman said.
