According to Kiplinger’s Personal Finance magazine, the University is one of the 100 best values of public colleges and universities in 2007.
An in-state education at the University of Oregon is the 93rd best value in the nation, the nationally-circulated magazine reports. The University moves up seven spots from last year’s ranking of 100th and is the only public institution in Oregon to make the list. For out-of-state tuition, the University is the 100th best value nationwide.
Kiplinger’s Web site states that the 100 top schools are “noteworthy for their combination of top flight academics and affordable costs.”
The rankings are based on data from more than 500 public four-year colleges and universities. Colleges were ranked primarily based on academics, weighing academic quality measurements more heavily than costs.
Senior Vice President and Provost Linda Brady said the opportunity to connect one-on-one with professors at the top of their field through seminars, special interest sessions and undergraduate research helped the University make the list. Also helping is an 18-1 student-to-faculty ratio, as well as a high percentage of costs met by financial aid.
Among other universities to top the list were the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in the number one spot, followed by University of Florida and the College of William and Mary.
The full list of Kiplinger’s top 100 schools will be published in February’s issue of the magazine.
