The men’s basketball team, already scheduled to play in the 25th anniversary of the Maui Invitational in 2008, discovered Wednesday who its opponents will be, and they include some of the nation’s toughest programs.
Oregon will compete against a field that includes Alabama, Indiana, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Saint Joseph’s, Texas and Division II host Chaminade in a three-day tournament during Thanksgiving weekend, Nov. 24-26, 2008.
Both the Hoosiers and Tar Heels have won the event in the past, while it will be the Ducks’ first appearance in one of the nation’s premier early-season tournaments.
“We look forward to commemorating the tournament’s 25th anniversary with another marquee assembly of teams in 2008,” tournament chairman Dave Gavitt said in a release. “The EA Sports Maui Invitational has the ingredients, on and off the court, that make for a one-of-a-kind college sports event.”
UCLA won the tournament this season, beating Georgia Tech 88-73.
