A few suggestions for holiday drinks.
The In-law Pounder
One shot Bookers Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey
Chase with one shot Jim Beam Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey
Repeat until your mother-in-law looks hot
Through with the mixers? Sometimes you just need to shoot it. This recipe will make your forced family gatherings a little more bearable three ounces at a time. Instructions? One, then the other.
John McCain Cider
Three parts Oregon Chai Cider
One part apple juice
One part orange juice
Dash of lemon juice
Cinnamon sticks
Cloves
Nutmeg
Rum
To brew this warm and tasty concoction, simmer the chai cider, apple juice, orange juice, lemon juice, cinnamon and cloves together in a pot for six to eight minutes. Remove from heat and strain the cloves and cinnamon before garnishing with a pinch of nutmeg. Toss in a moderate amount of rum. Moderate can mean just about anything; be as conservative or liberal as the mood strikes.
RogueNog
Five ounces high-quality eggnog
Two ounces Rogue Hazelnut Rum
The classiest drink this holiday season, the comforting eggnog was inspired by Rogue Brewery’s truly amazing hazelnut rum. Smooth and sweet with a lovely warmth added by the rum, this drink finishes with a vibrant hazelnut flavor. Perfect for around the fireplace, or anywhere really. For those with less class (or cash), any rum with a hazelnut syrup works.
Santa Bailey’s
One shot Bailey’s Irish Cream liquor
One shot Creme de Cacao
One shot peppermint schnapps
Milk or cream
Mint to garnish
Start with an old fashioned glass and pour your Bailey’s, Creme De Cacao and peppermint schnapps over four to five ice cubes. Top with a swirl of milk or cream and garnish with some fresh mint. You can use a different Irish Cream liquor, but Santa will deem you naughty – the one that pardons you lumps of environment-killing fossil fuels. Go green and drink the best.
The Classic
One Samuel Smith’s Oatmeal Stout
One clean pint glass
For the discerning holiday participant, a stout beer with no extras is suggested. The instructions are simple: pour, drink and feel smug knowing you’ve consumed one of the oldest and truest forms of beer made. And don’t be afraid of a little head; it’s the English way.
The Prussian
One shot Vodka of your choice
One shot Kahlua
One shot peppermint schnapps
Milk or cream
Pour your Vodka, Kahlua and peppermint schnapps over four to five ice cubes in an old-fashioned glass. Top with milk or cream to taste and stir well.
