The University’s Lundquist College of Business landed among The Princeton Review’s list of the top 15 schools in the nation for students in marketing.
The Princeton Review’s list of “Student Opinion Honors for Business Schools” ranked schools based on a survey of 19,000 business students from schools across the country. Willamette University in Salem also made the top 15 in marketing.
Students designated the school’s Warsaw Sports Marketing Center as a nationally competitive sports business program.
Paul Swangard, managing director of the Warsaw Center, said the ranking is a “job well done” message to the business school from its own students.
“We hope it’s a validation of what we’ve tried to build here, which is a best-of-its-kind center,” Swangard said.
The rankings are published in Entrepreneur magazine’s April issue. Entrepreneur also lists the College of Business, at number 23, among the top entrepreneurial colleges.
“This ranking is very much a reflection of how the Warsaw Sports Marketing Center has elevated our national prominence and reflects our commitment to providing our students with the tools they need to succeed in an increasingly competitive business world,” said Dennis Howard, dean of the business school and department head of sports marketing, in a statement.
The “experiential learning” opportunities that students have at the school in working with actual clients have lead to important professional relationships for graduates, Swangard said.
Graduates from the sports marketing program have gone to work outside of sports, he added, landing jobs at American Idol, Coca-Cola, Microsoft and Visa. Swangard said the college’s MBA program is the flagship of the marketing department, but opportunities such as the Warsaw Sports Business Club help give undergraduates a jump-start on their careers.
Because The Princeton Review ranking relies on student opinion, Swangard said the reward is especially sweet.
“Ultimately, it’s what customers think of your product that matters; this is a great sign of customer satisfaction,” Swangard said.
Other schools that made the top 15 in marketing include business schools at Duke University, Harvard University and Northwestern University.
