Oregon lacrosse found itself down 9-5 with just 13 minutes gone in the second half of Sunday’s game against Johns Hopkins after the Blue Jays scored five straight goals, but the Ducks rallied with seven of the game’s next eight goals to win 12-10 in Autzen Stadium.
Ilsa van den Berg, who finished with five goals and an assist in the game, which was played inside Autzen Stadium because of poor weather on Papé Field, scored four goals during the comeback, including three in a row.
Alex Breiner scored the final goal of the game for Oregon
(5-2) with 4:32 remaining that gave Oregon an insurance goal to stay ahead of the Blue Jays.
“I came out at the end of the first half with the yellow card and I watched them score three goals,” van den Berg said in a media release. “I knew I had to make a difference in the second half. Every time I shot the ball I made sure it was going behind the goalie.”
Oregon outshot Johns Hopkins 30-26 in the game, and committed five more turnovers than the visitors. The Ducks also held a sizable advantage on ground balls gained, 14-6.
Freshmen Jess Drummond and Catherine Davidson scored two goals apiece for the Ducks.
