The Oregon men’s tennis team came up short against the No. 21 Washington Huskies with a 5-2 loss
on Friday.
Junior Alex Cornelissen picked up a win for the Ducks in No. 2 singles play, defeating 114th-ranked Patrik Fischer in two sets: 6-2, 6-2. Freshman Jose Izquierdo took the No. 4 singles point for Oregon in two sets as well: 6-2, 7-6.
Mike Myrhed was able to pull out the come-from-behind victory in No. 3 doubles play. The Ducks’ lone senior celebrated his last home match in an Oregon uniform on Senior Day with a win. He and junior Ric Mortera battled for the 9-7 win to close out the doubles session for the day.
Friday marked the final regular season match for the Oregon squad. The Ducks will begin the Pacific-10 Conference tournament in Ojai, Calif., on Thursday.
