This year’s ASUO elections have proven to be far more dramatic than anyone could have anticipated. Now that we have arrived at the final day of elections, I have decided to vote based on the ideals that led me to support Emma and Getachew from the beginning. They have unequivocally proven that their campaign has the unique ability to bring together a wide variety of student groups and student interests and move them toward a common goal of bettering the University.
In terms of student groups, I am a proud and active member of the Greek Community, the University’s largest student population. I believe the Oregon Action Team has an incredibly strong slate with highly qualified candidates. This exact statement also applies to True Blue and Students First.
But the qualification of those candidates is not that they are a part of the Greek Community, or any other organization for that matter. For any candidates to be qualified, their main interest must be for the University.
When I vote, I not only need to take into account my individual needs as a student, but my obligation to the rest of the students on campus. No group or individual can function without the support of the ASUO, and I know that when I vote for Emma and Getachew, the integrity of their goals will not only support student organizations such as Greek Life, they will move forward as a student government to increase the success of every student on the University campus.
