Oregon won both games of a doubleheader Wednesday against Portland State on the road to move to 15-26 on the season.
The Ducks won the first game 3-1 behind senior Sari-Jane Jenkins’ fifth home run of the season, and fourth in the last month. Her home run in the first inning put the Ducks up 1-0, which was followed by junior Carlyn Re’s RBI single in the third and a manufactured run by Jenkins in the fifth inning. Jenkins reached base after being hit by a pitch and stole second base before scoring on a throwing error to first base that tried to catch sophomore Cortney Kivett out.
Oregon won the second game 4-3 as Melissa Rice earned her first victory of the season (1-6). Sophomore Brittany Rumfelt got the save for the Ducks by pitching a hitless final 3.2 innings of work.
The Ducks got their offense started again by an early home run, this time by junior Neena Bryant, who finished 3-for-4 at the plate. The Ducks were up 2-0 after the first inning only to be matched in the second by Portland State 2-2. Oregon put up two more runs in the top of the third inning on freshman Lindsey Chambers’ two-RBI single that scored sophomore Monique Fuiava and Ashley Kivett, who walked to get on base.
Oregon next plays at No. 4 Stanford on Friday at 7 p.m., and at No. 14 California on Saturday at 1 p.m. and Sunday at noon.
