The ASUO Executive will present “Ashes2Ashes Street Dance Championships,” on Saturday, May 23 at the Woodruff Gym in Gerlinger Hall.
This is the second year the Ashes2Ashes event has taken place at the University. The competition’s main event will be a one-on-one invitational breakdance battle featuring 32 of the West Coast’s finest performers.
Eddie Styles of Jabbawockeez and Casper of Boogie Brats will be special guest celebrity judges for this year’s show. The grand prize for the competition is $500 cash and other prizes from tour sponsors will also be up for grabs.
Additional performances include JoonRA, a duo whose talent has earned them continuous recognition throughout the Northwest; L.D.T., an innovative hip-hop choreography group that recently opened for the America’s Best Dance Crew tour in Portland; and Unseen Dance, another hip-hop dance crew led by veteran Josh Burns.
Ashes2Ashes was created in 2004 in Portland. The competition has expanded to include other street dance styles, and has had previous tours dates in California and Japan.
The show will be free for students and the public. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the show starts at 7 p.m.
