The new HEDCO Education Building is set to open formally June 11, but the University’s College of Education has already moved offices into the building on Alder Street, which has housed offices for the college since the beginning of spring term.
“I get students coming in, (saying) ‘I saw construction workers. I didn’t know it was open,’” said Academic Advisor Randall Martin, whose office is in the new building.
Martin said he has changed offices six times since construction began, but he hopes the new building can be the school’s “final resting place.”
“This office feels like a mansion to me,” Martin said.
University spokesperson Julie Brown said the building requires very little work before it is complete. She said technological upgrades for classrooms are the most important feature yet to be installed.
As for other construction projects, Brown said the school will spend the $2.9 million it will receive from the federal stimulus chiefly on mechanical upgrades and renovations for buildings and sidewalks.
