All-purpose back Chris Harper said he will transfer from the University of Oregon Tuesday, only four days after former backup quarterback Justin Roper declared he was leaving.
The Wichita, Kansas native, who was expected to see significant time at slot receiver next season, cited a desire to be closer to home as his primary reason for wanting to leave.
Harper played in 12 of the Ducks’ 13 games as a freshman last season, including four games at quarterback. He completed four of nine passes for 40 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions, and as a receiver caught nine passes for 122 yards and two touchdowns.
Harper gave no indication about where he wanted to play, but head coach Chip Kelly said that he was given the impression by university officials that Harper requested his release be forwarded to Kansas and Kansas State among others, an official release said.
He will have four years to complete his remaining three years of playing eligibility.
