Eugene police did not file a report for an alleged break-in at Kappa Delta early Sunday, May 24. The break-in is one in a string of recent incidents with female victims near campus.
E-mails, provided by an anonymous source, from Kappa Delta president Emily Escobosa to University sorority members report that a man entered the Kappa Delta house “due to a faulty door,” walked onto the sleeping porch, removed his pants and got into bed with a woman.
Eugene Police Department public information specialist Jenna LaBounty confirmed that no police report was filed because police were unable to locate a suspect and they decided that “no crime had been committed.”
Escobosa wrote that the woman was able to get away from the man without any contact and “he left after she yelled at him to leave.”
Escobosa’s e-mail states that “the police came to the house that night to ensure that he was no longer in the house.”
Eugene police responded to a call at the Kappa Delta house at 1680 Alder St. at about 4 a.m. on May 24.
The police dispatcher filed the incident under “suspicious conditions,” and LaBounty said police cleared the incident after checking into it.
Escobosa said the sorority’s national organization will not permit her or any other Kappa Delta member to comment.
The only description included in the e-mail is that the man appeared to be in his 20s or 30s.
This incident comes sandwiched between two other recent incidents near campus in which suspects exposed themselves, forced physical contact or both.
On Monday, May 18, incidents of indecent exposure and sexual assault at various locations between East 19th and East 23rd Avenues on Harris Street led police to believe that only one suspect was involved. There were three victims.
Eugene police unsuccessfully tried twice to locate the suspect that night.
On Thursday, May 28, the University’s Department of Public Safety reported an incident of sexual assault that occurred at East 15th Avenue and Alder Street outside the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority house.
The incident occurred at about 11 p.m., when an unknown male exposed himself and made unwanted physical contact with a University student, according to a DPS alert issued to University students Friday.
The suspect is described as a white male in his late 20s with light blond hair cut in a buzz-cut style and a round face. He is about 5 feet 8 inches tall and 180 pounds. He was last seen wearing a dark blue baseball cap with a gray visor, a plaid shirt and a blue, collared jacket and dark blue jeans.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the EPD tip line at 682-8888 or DPS at 346-2919.
