The current stipend model, which ASUO programs use to determine the payment for their directors and program coordinators, is likely to be revised this year.
Sen. Lyzi Diamond is spearheading the effort.
Diamond said the date on top of the current stipend model document is three years old and hasn’t been revised recently. But in order for Diamond to make changes, Senate must first clarify the procedure for changing the document and determine who has the authority to do so.
“Essentially what it would be is that a majority of Finance Committee has to approve the stipend model, it has to go through a two-thirds majority of Senate and then it would go to Constitution Court for the final approval,” Diamond said.
The Senate discussed the stipend model at its meeting last Wednesday, and some members showed concern that there was not an executive veto present in the proposed rule change.
Diamond would like senators to become more invested in the program’s budgeting process past the budget season.
Ultimately, Diamond said her goal is equity.
“I just want to make sure the stipend model ensures parity among student groups,” she said, which is the goal of the document stated in the ASUO’s governing document, the Green Tape Notebook.
