Thumbs Down: The newly re-elected President of Afghanistan, Hamid Karzai. It’s pretty clear that corruption runs rampant in the Karzai administration. His presidential re-election campaign was no different. Karzai won by default after his opponent, Abdullah Abdullah, withdrew from the race. Abdullah cited government corruption and election fraud, including fake ballots, in his concession speech. In the August vote, nearly a million votes were thrown out as fake ballots for Karzai. Unfortunately, the U.S. will have to deal with his weak regime once again.
Thumbs Up: Anh “Joseph” Cao, the Republican congressman from New Orleans, was the only Republican vote for the health care bill in the House on Saturday night. Cao was an unlikely winner last year against the corrupt William Jefferson. His political celebrity faded soon after his election because most consider him a placeholder until another Democrat wins the majority-black district. Knowing his fate may be sealed, Cao is unafraid to do what he thinks is right. “I’ve always been focusing on making the right decisions for the people of my district, whether or not it will cost me my political future,” he told CNN Sunday. Get it, Cao.
Thumbs Down: Nearly 40 Spyder Xtra paintball guns were stolen from Westside Baptist Church in Eugene last Thursday morning. Stealing from the church? Really?
Thumbs Up: We got football tickets this weekend! The ASUO Executive pushed to revert to tiered online distribution, and we haven’t heard as many complaints this
time around.
