We are writing in response to the article “OSPIRG loses its home” (ODE, Oct. 28). The decision made by the EMU Board of Directors concerning OSPIRG is outrageous.
As coordinators for Students for Sensible Drug Policy (SSDP), an active group operating out of the UO Survival Center, we are appalled by the removal of OSPIRG from its long-time home. This decision to evict OSPIRG, which has been and currently stands as one of the most active organizations at the University, will easily result in the decline of student activism on campus. OSPIRG puts on countless events, which inspire students and encourage small or large involvement in community, national and global issues.
Last year’s removal of funding and the recent eviction from the survival center deprives OSPIRG the support it needs to give the student body a place to learn to develop and voice
its opinions.
