Thumbs up: Lou Dobbs resigns
The longtime CNN talk show host left the network in a surprising step-down. Dobbs was widely criticized for bringing issues of marginal concern to the mainstream, such as the Obama “birthers” movement. Don’t let the door hit you, Lou.
Thumbs up: EPA whistleblowers call cap-and-trade’s bluff
Alan Zabel and Laurie Williams, two longtime Environmental Protection Agency attorneys, speak out against the “cap-and-trade” component of climate change legislation before Congress, saying it is “fatally flawed” and will not help solve global warming despite attempted censorship by EPA. It’s good that two people who know what they’re talking about finally gave voice to an issue that has been of civic and scientific concern since the bill was first released.
Thumbs down: The MPAA crushes local broadband
Amid record box office sales, the Motion Picture Association of America successfully shut down a town’s free collective Wi-Fi internet connection because one user was apparently downloading a single copyrighted movie. The internet connection was used by police, commercial vendors and town visitors alike. The MPAA plans to continue investigating and hopes to fine the single user up to the $150,000 allowed by law.
Thumbs down: Right wing wacko conflates Ft. Hood tragedy and terrorism
The American Family Association this week said Muslims should not be allowed to serve in the U.S. military. “As soon as Muslims give us a foolproof way to identify their jihadis from their moderates, we’ll go back to allowing them to serve,” Bryan Fischer, the AFA’s “director of issue analysis” said. The U.S. military should not be applying religion tests to anybody, let alone engaging in this kind of bigoted nonsense.
