The No. 32 Oregon women’s golf team continues to scratch and claw its way up the leader board at the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational in Seattle, Wash.
A day after shooting a 326, 38-over par, the Ducks improved six strokes on day two for a score of 315, 27-over par.
The team now has 641 strokes, which is 65-over par. The team’s score is still a long distance behind No. 13 California, which is 23-over par and ten strokes ahead of
second place Stanford.
Cal was 15-over par Tuesday and the Cardinal, which was 12 strokes back yesterday, shot the low score of the round at 301.
In the individual leader board, the Golden Bears have a stronghold, with three golfers in the top seven. Pia Halbig started the day tied for second place with teammate Emily Childs, but shot a one-over 73 to propel herself into the lead. Childs was right there,
shooting a 74.
Katrina Delen Briones of San Jose State is tied in third place with Natasha Podmore of San Francisco — who was the leader coming into the day — after shooting a 75,
three-over par.
For the Ducks, leader Kendra Little shot a one-over par on the back nine for a 78 to improve her score by four strokes. She now sits at 16 over par and tied for 30th.
Erica Omlid, who was the Oregon leader Monday, shot an 82 to move her down one stroke behind Little for a tie at 36th place.
Rounding out the scoring for the Ducks, Monika Graf played four over par to finish the second round tied for 39th, Kate Hildahl shot a 79 to move into a tie for 46th, and Cheyenne Hickle went 12-over par to finish tied for 52nd.
There are 13 teams at the three-day event held at Sahalee Country Club in Seattle, Wash. Rounding out the top five team scores are No. 8 Pepperdine in third place with a score of 613 strokes; the University of San Francisco in fourth at 614, and No. 48 San Jose State University in fifth, six strokes back at 620.
Third round action will start at 8:30 a.m., with the first Duck teeing off at 9:40 a.m.
