As a freshman, my biggest source of food is Carson or Hamilton. I also frequent the Dux Bistro and Panda Express. While the UO does supply a healthy dose of fruits and veggies, my Oregonian roots still thirst for fresh produce.
When I heard about a farmers market coming to UO, I was thrilled. Not only do I get fresh produce at my fingertips, I also get to support the local farmers of Eugene. I have an aunt who ran the farmers market in Davis, Calif., for over 10 years. I have another aunt who founded and runs the Moreland Farmers Market in Portland. I know the importance of having a farmers market. It brings communities together, it provides healthier (and real not processed) food choices, and it’s better for the environment.
Buying from local farmers keeps dollars in the community, thus stimulating local economy. Getting to wander down a long aisle of garden-fresh vegetation, chatting with local farmers and getting to know exactly what I’m eating is just what I need this fall, and hopefully what I’ll be seeing for the next four years.
