The Oregon women’s soccer team dropped to 0-3 in Pacific-10 Conference play on Friday night as they fell 2-0 to the Oregon State Beavers. The loss put the Ducks at 8-5-1 on the season after losing four of their last five matches.
Both teams held each other scoreless until the 83rd minute when OSU’s redshirt freshman Chelsea Buckland found the back of the net off of a Melissa Peck and Melinda Ingalls assist. Only 36 seconds later, the Beavers struck again as sophomore Ashley Seal connected from 10 yards out to give the Beavers the 2-0 lead for good.
Buckland and Seal each recorded their team-high fifth goal of the year, as OSU improved to 9-4-1 on the year and 1-2 in conference play.
Juniors Kirstie Kuhns and Jen Stoltenberg each had three shots in the match for the Ducks, with two of Kuhns’ shots coming on goal. Stoltenberg — a honorable mention all-Pac-10 selection last season — has been held scoreless over the past six matches with her last goal coming in a 1-0 win over Dartmouth on Sept. 20.
The Ducks welcomed back senior goalkeeper Jessie Chatfield-Proulx, formerly Jessie Chatfield, who missed the entire 2008 season with a knee injury. Chatfield-Proulx played all 90 minutes on Friday, recording one save and allowing two goals. She returns to action for her final year of eligibility as Oregon’s all-time leader in goalkeeper wins (25) and shutouts (16).
The Ducks next travel south to take on UCLA this coming Friday, followed by USC on Sunday.
