Matthew Knight Arena is on schedule even if it means staying a little later in the workday, says Projects Superintendent Adam Bonner of Hoffman Construction. The Emerald and other members of the press toured the arena’s construction zone Friday morning. The 75-foot high structure, from the street, should have the concrete set by Oct. 29. All the steel should be in by late-March and the roof on by the time the rainy season is over. Starting in February, the Alumni Center will be built above the underground three-level parking structure. Bonner estimates that on average, at this time about 200 workers are on site but once March ends and the steel is in, the number will nearly double.
The panorama was taken from the main concourse level looking down toward the north side of the arena; the secondary image is from the “worst seat in the house,” Bonner said.
