Stop by the EMU Ticket Office at 11:54 a.m. today and you’ll hear one of the oldest music traditions on the planet, for free.
Aaron Shragge will perform North Indian music with local musicians until about 12:08 p.m.
At 8 p.m. Monday he will perform again at the Collier House for a trumpet and shakuhachi recital. Tickets are $10 for the general public and $8 for students.
Shragge’s performances are a part of Sound-Bytes, an unusual music series that begins Mondays at 11:54 a.m. and lasts until about 12:08 p.m. in the EMU’s lobby concourse.
Sound-Bytes was founded and curated by trumpet professor Brian McWhorter and is supported by the Oregon Humanities Center and the School of Music and Dance.
According to its Myspace.com page, Sound-Bytes has featured faculty musicians, poets, dancers, theoretical nuclear physicists, student musicians and professional musicians.
Christian Cherry and his electric viola will perform the next Sound-bytes concert on Jan. 19.
