No. 16 Oregon (15-6, 8-5 Pac-12) beat California (13-11, 4-9) for the eighth-straight time on Friday at Haas Pavilion in Berkeley, Calif.
The victory against the Bears marks the fifth straight season sweep during the Oregon streak.
Coming off their five-set loss in last week’s match against Colorado, Oregon is now 4-3 in away games with Friday’s sweep of 25-18, 25-16 and 25-19.
Oregon took a strong hold of the lead in the opening set by scoring three consecutive points without a response from Cal. The Ducks saw as big of a lead as six and quickly won the set 25-18. Lindsey Vander Weide and Jolie Rasmussen led the team with four kills and two digs each.
Set two would end just as fast as set one, with the Ducks winning 25-16.
Oregon was quick to score first again in the set, but this time Cal was able to put up points before the Ducks took a five-point lead at 7-2. Oregon’s 10-3 run and subsequent nine-point lead forced Cal to take both timeouts within the set.
Ronika Stone joined Vander Weide and Rasmussen in kills, leading the team each with six kills at the end of the second set. The Oregon had a hitting percentage of 0.414 with just four errors and kept Cal down to a 0.083 percentage.
Cal attempted to gain momentum, briefly leading the Ducks 4-2 to begin set three, but Oregon promptly went back on top at 5-4. The Ducks concluded the set with a win of 25-19, winning the match.
Stone ended the night leading the team with 10 kills, and was followed closely behind by Rasmussen with eight. The Ducks ended with eight errors on 90 swings, hitting 0.367 percent.
Oregon will continue their California road trip this weekend as they take on the No. 2 Stanford Cardinal Sunday afternoon.
