According to Bruce Feldman of Sports Illustrated, Justin Herbert will miss 4-6 weeks due to a collarbone injury suffered in the first quarter against California on Saturday night as Herbert crossed into the end zone to score a touchdown for the Ducks. Feldman has reported that it was Herbert’s non-throwing arm.
Herbert was 7-of-8 for 86 yards, throwing for one touchdown and rushing for one. The Ducks led 17-0 after Herbert was injured. Taylor Alie replaced Herbert but was also injured in the second half, so he was replaced by freshman Braxton Burmeister.
Through five games, Herbert ranks 26th in the nation with 1,264 passing yards. He’s thrown nine touchdowns and two interceptions.
If he does miss just four games, it would mean he could return Nov. 4 against Washington. A full six-week absence would mean he wouldn’t be ready until the Arizona game following the Ducks bye week.
Oregon will now turn to Alie and Burmeister, who burned his redshirt season on Saturday when Alie was also hurt.
