Former Oregon basketball player Kavell Bigby-Willliams’ sexual assault case was closed by the Gillette College Police Department on Wednesday. No charges will be filed.
Bigby-Williams was under investigation for forcible rape that allegedly occurred on the night of September 17, 2016, during a visit to Gillette Community College in Gillette, Wyoming. Bigby-Williams was visiting his former school where he was a member of the men’s basketball team.
The police report was turned over to the Campbell County Attorney’s Office where it was reviewed, and no further charges were filed.
Bigby-Williams announced his intentions to transfer from Oregon to Louisiana State University before the allegations became public in an article by the Emerald.
In the police report released by the college, the alleged victim said she was drinking alcohol and blacked out on the night of the alleged assault. She stated she had no memory of the crime occurring but woke up with vaginal bleeding, soreness and bruising on her neck.
The police report stated that the alleged victim had no intention of reporting the incident, additionally claiming she did not want to get anyone in trouble.
In an interview with police, Bigby-Williams acknowledged he and the alleged victim were together that night, along with the Gillette College men’s and women’s basketball teams in on-campus suites.
Bigby-Williams said that he and the alleged victim, “went to the room, and the teammates went elsewhere, and we had sex, she took a shower, came back and we were laying in bed, talking to each other.”
He added: “She got up and took a shower, and we were talking to each other, we laid down, and when she fell asleep, I left back to my friends dorm.”
Bigby-Williams stated he was not aware that the alleged victim was drinking, and he didn’t notice any impairment. He was not drinking, and he said he did not participate in any sexual acts that would cause injury.
Bigby-Williams also said he and the alleged victim had a relationship while he was a student at Gillette College. He stated the two had “consensual sex” earlier in his visit which began on September 12, 2016.
The 6-foot-10 forward played 37 games for the Ducks in 2016-17, averaging 9.8 minutes and 3.0 points. He was a role player who saw increased action when star Chris Boucher got injured. He helped Oregon reach the Final Four for the second time in school history last season.
At Gillette College, Bigby-Williams was the 2016 Junior College Player of the Year.
