In letting Jeremiah Masoli and LaMichael James remain students in good standing at the University, the president and dean of students have demonstrated a casual disregard for the safety of students and the integrity of the University, and shows that the big dollars of NCAA football have trumped common sense.
Masoli and James are now convicted criminals who are allowed to attend classes and mingle with students. Perhaps they do not pose a threat because of their supposed character from football (although Masoli’s now twice-convicted status raises doubt about that claim), but now the University has set the precedent that anyone convicted of burglary or misdemeanor assault can remain on campus. Clearly students should be able to live in their dorms thinking that the University has done everything necessary to protect them.
