The Oregon women’s lacrosse team saw its three-game losing streak come to an end after defeating visiting Iona 15-11 Saturday afternoon at Papé Field. The win put the Ducks at 3-3 overall on the year, while Iona fell to 1-3.
The Ducks led 10-5 going into halftime, but Iona battled back to narrow the Oregon lead to 12-10 with less than 11 minutes to play. Oregon, however, was able to hold Iona to just one score for the rest of the game, while recording three of their own.
Sophomore Bina Barrett paced the Ducks with four goals on the day, giving her seven on the season. Sophomore Jana Drummond also tallied four points on three goals and one assist. Drummond leads the Ducks with 17 goals through six games, though junior Alex Breiner has the 22-19 edge over Drummond for the team lead in points.
As a team, Oregon had the edge in shots (35-21), shots on goal (21-16), ground balls (27-23), draw controls (16-11), team clears (16-15) and free position goals (4-2).
Oregon’s next contest will be Saturday, March 20, when they take on Cincinnati at 1 p.m. in the final game of the Ducks’ current three-game home stint.
