Amelie Rousseau’s campaign claims to be “the independent ticket.” When weighing the validity of this claim, ask yourself how their campaign has been any different from the other slates running in the ASUO elections. They are running with ideologically like-minded candidates and have ideologically based campaign goals. Their only difference from a slate is in name. This strategy has been used by ASUO insiders for years and is commonly known as a “Pseudo Slate.” Do not be convinced by this disingenuous campaign tactic.
Their claim of an independent campaign is particularly laughable, considering how closely tied they are with insider ASUO special interests and that they immediately ran with another slate when it was in their political benefit. For years, ASUO insiders and alumni have controlled the ASUO by choosing candidates who are sympathetic to their own agendas and then trained them with advanced campaign tactics. These candidates have focused on spending thousands of student dollars for off-campus conferences.
The ASUO is more than just the Executive — all ASUO Senate and finance committee positions are extremely relevant to improving our University. If an executive wants to change the ASUO, they must ensure qualified candidates are running for all positions, which is the purpose of a slate.
Reality Check is a campaign that has student leaders from all aspects of campus whose focus is to improve the University for all students. Vote for the truly independent campaign; vote for the ASUO to have a Reality Check.
