The No. 9 Arizona State Sun Devils pulled out the series sweep over the No. 16 Oregon Ducks following their 3-0 win on Sunday afternoon. It was the second straight series loss for Oregon (31-10, 7-5 Pacific-10 Conference) after going also going 1-2 against top-ranked Washington a week ago.
The Ducks tallied six hits against Sun Devil starter Hilary Bach (19-4), including multiple hit games for sophomore shortstop Kelsey Chambers (2-for-3) and freshman outfielder Allie Burger (2-for-4).
On the mound, freshman ace Jessica Moore (13-6) struck out three, walked four and gave up five hits and three runs in her five innings of work. Sophomore reliever Mikayla Endicott came in to get the final three outs for the Ducks after Moore surrendered Krista Donnenwirth’s fifth home run of the season.
After a lopsided 10-3 loss to open the series on Friday night, the Ducks rallied back for a 7-4 win to tie the series at 1-1 on Saturday. Senior centerfielder Neena Bryant (2-for-3) and Chambers (2-for-3, one RBI) both tallied multiple hits during that contest. Chambers’ solo home run was her eighth home run of the season.
Sophomore Samantha Skillingstad picked up her tenth win of the season during that contest, striking out four and walking two in just over four innings of work.
Oregon will host its final non-conference matchup on Wednesday afternoon when the Portland State Vikings visit Howe Field for a doubleheader. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
