The Oregon women’s basketball team received signed letters of intent from two recruits this week — the fourth and fifth signees in head coach Paul Westhead’s 2009-10 class.
Guard Ashley Buis becomes the only signee from a junior college; the 5-foot-11-inch Buis will have junior eligibility entering next season. A two-time National Junior College Athletic Association Honorable Mention All-American, Buis averaged 14.0 points per game and made 69 three-pointers this season, a needed element for the Ducks with the graduation of Taylor
Lilley and Micaela Cocks.
“Ashley is a shooting guard with deep range,” Westhead said in a media release. “Our offense will allow Ashley to shoot the ball at will, and she should help us replace our senior shooting guards Micaela (Cocks) and Taylor (Lilley). We are extremely happy she chose to join our Oregon program.”
Forward Chynna Miley, from Southwest DeKalb High School in Atlanta, is Oregon’s second signee. Miley, a 6-foot-2-inch post player, helped lead her high school team to three consecutive Georgia AAAA State Championships.
“Chynna is a very agile post who runs the floor well and will be able to play the power forward and center positions for us,” Westhead said. “She will bring athleticism and a defensive presence to our inside game, as well as a nice 15-foot jumper. I think Chynna has unlimited potential and will prove to be a great addition to our program.”
Oregon’s other signees include guard Ariel Thomas (Sacramento, Calif., McClatchy High School) and forwards Deanna Weaver (Santa Clara, Calif, Wilcox High School) and Danielle Love (Everett, Wash., Cascade High School).
