Looking to end the regular season in style, the No. 33 women’s golf team began play in the Baylor Spring Invitational on Monday in Waco, Texas. The course has proven to be challenging, and through one round no team has broken par.
The Ducks currently stand tied for fifth place overall after shooting an opening round score of 310 (22-over par). Oklahoma holds a three-stroke lead in the tournament after shooting a 297 in the first round.
Senior Kate Hildahl led the Ducks with a 76 (four-over par) in the first round, good for a ninth-place tie. Juniors Kendra Little and Erica Omlid, along with freshman Cheyenne Hickle, were not far behind with scores of 78 (six-over par) and stand tied for 19th overall.
Sophomore Ashley Edwards, meanwhile, struggled out of the gate with an 81 (nine-over par) and is tied for 46th place.
Only two players broke par on Monday, the first being Arkansas-Little Rock’s Mallory Fraiche with a 69 (three-under par). Jaclyn Jansen of tournament host Baylor trailed not far behind with a 71 (one-under par).
Of the 16 teams participating, Oregon is one of only two that are ranked. The other is No. 47 Texas Tech, which is off to a solid start just above the Ducks in fourth place.
