The No. 2 men’s golf team got off to a rocky start in the opening round of the Pacific-10 Conference Championships on Monday.
With temperatures at Karsten Golf Course in Tempe, Ariz., rising into the nineties, the Ducks shot a first round score of 351 (four under par), tying No. 44 Arizona for seventh place.
No. 1 Stanford found its rhythm early, shooting a total score of 330 in the first round (25 under par) and earning an outright lead to start the tournament. No. 13 Arizona State was not far behind with a 337 (18 under par), while No. 6 Washington rounded out the top three with a 338 (17 under par).
Junior Jack Dukeminier continued his strong play for Oregon, shooting an opening round 66 (five under par) and tying for eighth overall. Sophomore Daniel Miernicki was not far behind with a 68 (three under par), and redshirt sophomore Jack Paton hit an even-par 71.
Eugene Wong, meanwhile, had an uncharacteristically slow start in the opening round. The sophomore hit a 74 (three over par), tying for 49th overall. He will, however, have plenty of time to make up ground in the coming days.
Arizona State’s Jesper Kennegard and Stanford’s Sihwan Kim both shot first-round scores of 63 (eight under par) to tie for first overall. Nick Taylor and Richard Lee of Washington tied for third with scores of 64 (seven under par).
Play continued into the second round on Monday afternoon, and the Ducks will be right back at it today as the third round begins.
