The women’s golf team fell to last place in a rain-shortened second day at the NCAA
Championships on Wednesday.
Lightning seen around the course prompted several stoppages in play, and the Ducks were never able to find a consistent rhythm. The team was able to finish its round with a score of 309 (21-over par), while several other teams were not as lucky and will continue early
Thursday morning.
Oregon now holds a total score of 611 (35-over par) and will have to significantly improve over the last two rounds to move up in the standings.
Freshman Cheyenne Hickle continues to pace the team, and is tied for 12th overall. Her score of 73 (one-over par) was five strokes better than any other Oregon player on Wednesday, and her total score of 144 is an even par.
Sophomore Ashley Edwards, meanwhile, had a difficult second round and dropped from 30th all the way to a tie for 92nd individually. Junior Kendra Little also has yet to find a consistent rhythm, shooting a 78 (6-over par) and falling to a 109th place tie.
No. 4 USC held on to its lead, shooting a second round 288 and moving to 6-under par for the tournament. No. 7 Alabama follows in second with a total score of 577 (1-over par), while No. 8 Purdue is not far behind at 2-over par overall.
Jennifer Johnson of No. 5 Arizona State held on to her first place standing individually with a second round score of 70 (2-under par). USC’s Jennifer Song fell to second with a 71 (1-under par), while four other players tied for third.
Third round play will take place shortly after the second round is completed on Thursday.
