If you have been staring at that retro lamp all year and are considering throwing it away just to get it out of your sight, stop and consider that your old stuff could spice up someone else’s living room.
The Salvation Army on 2065 W. Seventh Ave. or any of the Goodwill stores in Eugene take gently used items including furniture, books, clothing and games at their stores to be resold at low prices. The money made from the items goes to keeping the store running, but also to programs that help veterans, working mothers and survivors of natural disasters. Donations are also tax deductible, so don’t forget to ask for a donation receipt.

Rummage sales
Hosting a rummage sale can be a nostalgic money-making venture where you and your friends can work together to get rid of some old stuff and have a good time. When the weather gets warm, a garage sale isn’t a bad way to spend an afternoon and make some money.
Schools and churches
Try calling local schools and churches to see if they want your furniture. That old sofa you’ve been trying to ditch could be a perfect prop for the high school drama department.
