The Oregon men’s basketball team opens the 2010-11 season with an exhibition game against NAIA opponent Northwest Christian University Friday night at McArthur Court.
When the two teams matched up for the first time ever in 2008, Oregon defeated NCU 82-56.
The Ducks will showcase a handful of new players and new head coach Dana Altman, while the Beacons are looking to improve on last year’s 14-17 overall record.
Oregon newcomers Johnathan Loyd, Nicholas Lucenti, Tyrone Nared, Martin Seiferth and Jay-R Strowbridge will make their first appearance in Oregon uniforms, though Strowbridge will not see any live action after suffering a broken nose in practice last week.
Junior forward Jeremy Jacob will also be out of the starting lineup after undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery on Oct. 27, which could leave him sidelined for up to six weeks. Jacob started in Oregon’s final 13 games last season, averaging 7.5 points and 4.8 rebounds on the year.
Northwest Christian senior guard Quentin Guidry, who was named a Preseason All-Cascade Collegiate Conference selection in late October will lead the Beacons after losing senior guards in All-American Ben Voogd and four-year starter Erik Quick-Warner.
Tip time for Friday’s contest is set for 7 p.m.
