On to week 10 we go!
Notoriously known as Dead Week across campus, week 10 is the beginning to the most dreaded week in college-student history: Finals.
With the end of finals just hovering above the horizon, here are some tips to stay sane during the next week of preparation.
1) Drink!
Now that doesn’t mean run home and turn the song “Shots! Shots! Shots!” loud enough that your neighbors come knocking. But a small glass of wine can calm your nervous before getting into the studying zone. Of course, use with caution. Studying is unattainable with a few too many drinks under your belt.
2) Catch those ZzZzZZs
Although those nights might keep getting later and later, make sure sleep still remains relatively high on your list of priorities. Studying is the only way to have a successful week of finals, but if you body is drained from a lack of sleep your performance on your exams could suffer. Make sure you rest up and steer away from the all-nighters when possible. When you feel as if your brain is about to explode from knowledge sometimes the best remedy is a warm bed and good night’s rest.
3) Exercise
Whether you’re a work out enthusiast or detest everything about the term, working out is one of the best ways to shake off those shot nerves during Dead week. Bring a friend, join a class, or roll out your yoga matt on your living room floor. Take the time out of your day a few times this week to help release the pre-finals tension.
4) Breathe
Obvious? Not always. Sometimes slowing down the chaos just enough to breathe can help you get a grip of all the craziness. The next two weeks are crucial. Learning to take a deep breath when everything seems unmanageable will allow you to obtain a clearer picture of the assignments in front of you.
5) The most important tip to Dead Week is not let it slip through your fingers. It is common for students to use this week as a buffer for their studies until finals week. If you can balance a good amount of study for the next two weeks, the road to Christmas break will involve a lot less bumps and curves. Utilize the time available to get ahead of the game. No one likes Dead week. But if you can’t beat it, join it
