Weezer – “Pinkerton: Deluxe Edition”
Weezer’s classic 1996 sophomore album gets the re-release treatment with a huge two-disc, 36-track collection.
A much rawer and messier album compared to the group’s debut “Blue Album,” nobody really liked it at first. It was initially being a commercial failure and deemed a disappointment.
But it slowly took off and became considered the classic it is today. The re-release includes the entire album along with B-sides, alternative takes, radio interviews and live performances of the album’s songs.
Many of the unreleased songs are pretty decent and standouts include “I Just Threw Out The Love Of My Dreams,” featuring lead vocals by Rachel Haden.
Much of the deluxe materials are alternative versions of the original 10 tracks.
Though most fans will hope for more content from the scrapped “Songs From The Black Hole” album, there are some gems in there.
So if you are a Weezer fan and don’t already have these tracks, it’s worth checking out.
Kid Cudi – “Man On The Moon II: The Legend Of Mr. Rager”
Alternative rapper Kid Cudi is back with his highly anticipated sequel to his debut “Man On The Moon: The End Of Day,” and it’s a solid continuation.
Broken up into five acts, the album features 17 tracks covering themes such as dealing with fame and his issues with drug addiction.
The first single, “Erase Me,” has been well received, featuring sung vocals by Cudi and a guitar-rock beat.
Other highlights of the album include the dreamy “Marijuana,” the catchy beats of “Revofev,” “Wild’n Cuz I’m Young,” and album closer “Trapped In My Mind.”
The Tallest Man On Earth – “Sometimes The Blues Is Just A Passing Bird-EP”
The Tallest Man On Earth, aka Kristian Matsson, delivers this quiet 5-song EP that features the simple beauty a voice and a guitar can make.
Following the excellent album “The Wild Hunt” (if you haven’t heard the song “King of Spain” go check it out), this is a nice collection of finger-picked folk guitar songs.
Commonly compared to Bob Dylan, the Tallest Man on Earth is an ideal listen during a relaxing summer afternoon.
Even when he switches to electric on “Little River,” the music is soothing. Definitely give this EP a listen.
